Soul Of The Bush Celebrates The Diversity Of Bushwick

Trish Keyné Fye, as a part of the BETA Spaces (Bushwick Exhibition Triangle of Alternative Spaces) Festival, celebrates the diversity of the neighborhood of Bushwick with Soul of the Bush at Tandem Bar, 236 Troutman Street, Brooklyn, on November 14, 2010 12:30pm – 6:00pm

Soul of the Bush is an eclectic collection of artist and musicians that represent this communities growing diversity. In accordance with the BETA Spaces Festival, it is a one day themed event of collective artists open to the public at no cost.

In today’s Brooklyn, the hot word is gentrification. The bare truth of the matter is: if you live in Brooklyn, your neighborhood has been, is being, or will be gentrified. Such is the case in the Bushwick of Brooklyn.

This climate of change can be exciting to some, as it whispers of a future filled with hope and prosperity. To others gentrification is a source of anxiety, fearing that they will be forced from their homes or made to feel alien in their own neighborhoods. In both cases over zealous minds and intentions can lead to aggression.

Soul of the Bush seeks to ease oversight and fear by providing an exchange of culture and experiences; giving a window in to the hearts of Bushwick residents. Thereby opening a platform for discussion and understanding.
